THEME: DO NOT WEEP
TEXT: LUKE 8:41-56
MEMORY VERSE: Luke 8: 50 “Fear not, believe
only and she shall be made whole.”
We follow the topic of yesterday with a word of assurance for you today. Do not weep. The only daughter of Jairus, the President of the Elders of the Synagogue, was at the point of death. The nature of the sickness was not stated. However Jesus agreed to come and pray for her, but the woman with the issue of blood who has been bleeding for twelve years interrupted the journey, obviously because she was tired of weeping as well. Jesus attended to her and by that time the girl was dead. The news was broken to Jairus to allow Jesus to go away because the girl has died. In verse 52, everyone, including Jairus, was weeping because it seems as though it is over. However Jesus told him specifically, “Do not weep, the girl is not dead but sleeping”. The people laughed, but Jesus brought her back to life and God’s name was glorified.

Many things can make one weep — loss of job, lack of money or food, frequent harassments by landlord, loss of loved ones, etc. Do not weep. The God of restoration is here for you. There is no limit to what He can do. His power has no limit and cannot fail.

Believe in the Lord. Do not despair. Do not believe the people weeping around you. The Lord will turn the situation around. Psalm 30: 5b says “…weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning”. If Christ brought back to life Jairus’ daughter, just as He did for dead Lazarus and the son of the widow of Nain, He will do the same for you. DO NOT WEEP
HYMN: EMHB 528 – IN HEAVENLY LOVE ABIDING,
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, wipe away every tear from my face and make me to see You more clearly in Jesus’ name. Amen.
