Daily Reflection: GOD LOVES THE TRUTH – Saturday 21st July, 2018

TEXT: PROVERBS 12: 17-22
MEMORY VERSE: PROVERBS 12:22 – Lying lips are an abomination
to the LORD, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.
The dangerous aspect of a lie is that at a stage you start to live out the lie and then condition your mind to believe it is the truth. The reality, however, is that a lie can never become the truth. A lie shifts ground often while the truth remains constant. Proverbs affirms this when it says, “the truthful lip shall be established forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.” (Prov. 12:19)

People tell lies for many reasons; to avoid embarrassment; to gain an advantage; to cover up an error; and all sorts of reasons. Lies are told about age, financial standing, health, educational background, relationships and virtually about anything under the sun. A lie, when it fully blossoms, makes captive its proponent and sets the stage for a double life. It is only the truth that can set anyone imprisoned by his or her own lies free. God loves the truth and abhors lies, as we saw with Ananias and Sapphira in our reading yesterday. God is displeased when we lie to one another or when we use His name to deceive people. False teachers and prophets are out in the world today telling lies and misleading people for their own gains and to get the praise of men. Those who do these things will be judged by God’s Word, for “no grave trouble will overtake the righteous, but the wicked shall be filled with evil.” (Prov. 12:21)

“What is truth?” Pilate asked Jesus (John 18:38). The truth is that we are saved by faith in Jesus Christ. His atoning sacrifice earned us our salvation. This is the chief and foremost truth. It is of this that Jesus said, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” When we have embraced the truth, we should take the courageous step of telling ourselves the truth and then going out to tell others the truth about ourselves by correcting all lies that have held us in bondage, including our false beliefs and lifestyle. Also share the gospel with them.

PRAYER: Lord, empower me by Your Spirit to lead a life of integrity.
