Daily Reflection: POWER OF ENCOURAGEMENT – Tuesday 7th August, 2018

MEMORY VERSE: 1 THESSALONIANS. 1:8 “For from you sounded out the Word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia but also in every place your faith to God-ward has spread abroad; so that we need not to speak anything.”

A man was put in charge of troops trapped behind enemy lines. It was a matter of do or die. The enemy would execute them if they were discovered and the only way out was to become a prisoner of war by voluntary submission. However, the leader of the troops was sure they would not be spared alive if caught. He then decided to encourage his men, knowing that help was on the way to rescue them. He also knew that the strength of the boys was waning and they seem hopeless. He told them to remember that they were supposed to be brave and not weaklings; he made them to realize that that was an opportunity for them to prove their training and gallantry. The boys stood until help came along.

As Christians, we should always know that encouragement goes a long way to achieving a lot for the ministry. Paul wrote from Corinth to the Church at Thessalonica, appreciating members and encouraging them in the faith. He noted the fact that they were good examples of what Christianity is all about to the believers in Macedonia, a country in south-eastern Europe, and Achaia (Greece).

When you encourage people and appreciate them, they receive increased motivation to do more for you. Ministers who appreciate their Church Officers and members will receive more from them in terms of performance. Anything you appreciate will always increase in value. These words from Paul were very strong and helpful to any ministry because they also helped to reduce work and enhance more productivity. Encourage someone today and you shall see more performance from him/her.

PRAYER: Help, me Lord, to be able to send a word of encouragement to those who are in need of it so that they may stand in the face of discouragement for I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
