THEME: WORSHIPPING THE IMAGE OF GOLD
TEXT: DANIEL 3:8-18
MEMORY VERSE: Daniel 3:18 “But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”
Like in the days of king Nebuchadnezzar, the gold image has replaced that of the Lord in the hearts and lives of many Christians today. Images of gold appear to us in various ways and forms. When we see an exotic car, it registers in our minds and we covet one. When we see our mates in expensive attires or spraying money in parties, we tend to desire to be like them and our hearts are dejected. When we go to shopping malls and see things we would need at home but no money to purchase them, we create an image of them in our hearts. Anything that appeals to our senses, we lodge it in our hearts and covet it.
The Hebrew men were presented with a beautiful and, breathtaking sight; adorned with decorations, such as they had never seen before. But they refused to bow. Their allegiance to their God was not subject to any rationalization; they stood their ground. They refused to worship the image of gold even at the expense of their lives.
Beloved, are you worshipping the captivating image of gold in your heart? Some ministers of God today, are deep into gold worshipping, concentrating on monetary incomes rather than the salvation of souls. They regard the wealthy more than the poor and harp more on raising funds and offerings more than emphasizing on righteous living.
Today, whatever has value more than the holiness of God in our heart is an idol which we must pull down from the heart. I call on you today to stand your ground and worship only Jesus Christ and you shall be free from idolatry. God bless you.
HYMN: EMHB 393–I GIVE MY HEART TO THEE,
PRAYER: Lord, take away, I pray Thee, the image of the things of the world from my heart and dedicate it wholly and fully unto You. Empower me to enthrone You alone in my heart in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
