Daily Reflection: ASSURANCE OF SALVATION – Friday 17th August, 2018

TEXT: ROMANS 8:12-17
MEMORY VERSE: ROMANS 8:16 “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”

After leaving college, I was without work for a while. Then the opportunity for a Job interview came that promised a lucrative engagement. I was very hopeful. I was required to come for an interview in a location I had never been before. I started the journey with a map in hand. Then I got to a place where the road divided into two. One was smooth and the other was rough. My doubt was high. I consulted my map and it confirmed the rarely followed road. After a while, even as my doubts grew, I started noticing signposts which indicated I had taken the right turning. I was further assured that I was on the right path when I saw the signpost indicating the location ahead.

It is the same for our spiritual journey. How are we sure that we will be led to that heavenly bliss we desire or is the heavenly bliss existing? These are legitimate doubts and the Word of God addresses these doubts. Jesus said in John 14:6 ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life ‘. The scripture also says that God has deposited His Spirit in us as a guaranty of our eternal life (2Cor 5:5). John14:1-4says that our Lord Jesus had gone to prepare a place for us so that we can be where He is. So our assurance is hinged on Jesus Christ and His Word.

Let us, therefore, put our doubts aside and take up the assurances offered by His death and resurrection. Let us approach the throne of grace with full confidence in the atoning blood of Jesus. Let us also put away carnality and be led by the Spirit of God in everything we do.

PRAYER: Merciful and Everlasting Father, whenever Satan wants to becloud my faith with doubts and fear, arise and hold me with Your Right Hand of Righteousness. Amen.
