THEME: THE LORD IS WITH YOU

TEXT: ZEPHANIAH 3:14-17
14. Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. 15. The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more. 16. In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. 17. The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

MESSAGE
Israel as a people of God by covenant has no reason to be trampled upon or demeaned or miserable. If for any reason they live short of their esteemed pedestal, it is no other person’s fault or of the Lord, but theirs. While God usually keeps His terms of the covenant, the people were either stubborn and disobedient or weak to keep theirs. As a result, they always ran into trouble when God withdraws the blessings attached to the covenant.

Today we hear of people signing agreement, pact and memorandum of understanding with mutual benefits attached if they are true to what they signed. Because of failure to keep such promises, there are always conflicts between persons and nations resulting in violence and legal tussled all over the place, even among relatives and close friends. All that is required is commitment and determination to keep your own side of any covenant or promise you have entered into.

However, while persons may be hard to one another, God’s attribute of love, mercy and forgiveness stand side by side with His justice. Hence, after scolding and punishment, God again appears to us as a lovely mother who will not just throw away a stubborn baby, “can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she had borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Isaiah 49:15 NIV).

Zephaniah therefore, reassures us here that God is with us and is mighty to save us from our sins, misery and failure because He delights in us and His love will give us harmony. God is like a father who disciplines a stubborn child and, at the same time is like a mother who embraces a repentant child. He wants the best for you and from you!

HYMN EMHB 608
1: CAPTAIN of Israel’s host and guide,
Of all who seek the land above,
Beneath Thy shadow we abide,
The cloud of Thy protecting love;
Our strength, Thy grace; our rule, Thy word
Our end the glory of the Lord

2: By Thy unerring spirit led,
We shall not in the desert stray,
We shall not full direction need,
Nor miss our providential way;
As far from danger as from fear,
While love almighty love is near.

MEMORY VERSE:
Zeph. 3:17 “The Lord your God us with you,, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you. He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing”

PRAYER:
Lord Almighty, as one with God us majority, always be with me in all my journey in this world for Christ’s sake. Amen.
