1. And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. 3. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4. And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8. All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. 10. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Compare this text with Luke’s version (Luke 21:1-11). While Luke says that the report was made in the temple, Matthew reports that it was outside the temple. However, the essentials of the report are the same.

The three questions, by His disciples on Mount Olives: “Tell us, when will this be and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?” revealed the many signs from the discourse with their Master. He said there would be deceptions, fake Christs, wars and rumours of wars, famines, earthquakes, pestilences, betrayals, false prophets, persecution of Christians, apostasy, etc.

As Christians, we should not be worried or concerned today about what we shall eat or wear but about the things of the heavenly Kingdom. We are to be actively involved in spreading the gospel to all the people of the world as missionaries and we must not remain merely a receiving Church. Brothers and sisters, how concerned are you about spreading the gospel of Jesus? Are you prepared for His second coming?

Brothers and sisters, are you one of those who say that the world will not end? The signs of the time and the end of Age are already here. Let us get ready for the arrival of the Lord. Let us not be unaware. Jesus will surely come like a thief in the night!

1: COME, divine Interpreter,
Bring us eyes Thy Book to read,
Ears the mystic words to hear,
Words which did from Thee proceed,
Words that endless bliss impart,
Kept in an obedient heart.

2: All who read, or hear, are blessed,
If Thy plain commands we do;
Of Thy kingdom here possessed,
Thee we shall in glory view;
When Thou com’st on earth to abide,
Reign triumphant at Thy side.

MEMORY VERSE: Mark 13:4 “Tell us, when will this be and what will be the sign when these things are all to be accomplished?”

PRAYER: God Almighty, kindly rekindle the passion for evangelism in our church members in order not to be found wanting at our Lord’s second coming in Jesus Christ’ name
