THEME: MORE THAN ENOUGH!
PASSAGE: EXO. 36:4-7
4. And all the wise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they made; 5. And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the LORD commanded to make. 6. And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing. 7. For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much.
A proclamation was made by Moses to all the Israelites to bring offering for the work of the tabernacle as instructed by God. In response, the people brought the requirements for the work in abundance, even beyond what was needed! Another instruction had to be given to stop the continual outpouring of freewill offerings which had become embarrassingly abundant!
How wonderful will it be, if today, people could give with such zeal and open heart to obey the Lord and His servants in bringing what the house of God needs? Most often today, if peoples’ names are not announced with the amount they donated, it might be very difficult to raise a quarter of what the church needed for a given project. This was not the case in the early church; brethren gave with the same spirit in today’s text. Many of them sold their possessions and gave the whole money to the apostles both for distribution to the needy and for church projects (Acts 2:44-47).
How do you give in God’s house today? Do you give generously unless your offering or donation is announced? Are there so many needs in your church that no one seems to be concerned about? Do you even realize that all you have belongs to God? If God says, “Bring all you have to Me,” will you be able to heed such request? Are you answering to God’s clarion call to meet the needs of His house and servants? Learn to give embarrassingly huge gifts to God and challenge others to do same. It pays to do so now just as it paid then!
HYMN: EMHB 923
1: WE give Thee but Thine own,
Whate’er the gift may be;
All that we have is Thine alone,
A trust, O Lord, from Thee.
2: May we Thy bounties thus
As stewards true receive,
And gladly, as Thou blessest us,
To Thee our first-fruits give.
3: O hearts are bruised and dead,
And homes are bare and cold,
And lambs for whom the Shepherd bled
Are straying from the fold.
4: To comfort and to bless,
To find a balm for woe,
To tend the lone and fatherless
Is angels’ work below.
5: The captive to release,
To God the lost to bring,
To teach the way of life and peace—
It is a Christ-like thing.
EXO. 36:5 “We have more than enough materials on hand now to complete the job the Lord has given us to do!” they exclaimed.”
PRAYER: God, nothing is too big to give to You. Help me, therefore, to realize this and be able to give all I have to the glory of Your name. Amen.
