THEME: GOD IS AWARE
TEXT: JOB 12: 1 – 12
1. And Job answered and said, 2. No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you. 3. But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these? 4. I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn. 5. He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease. 6. The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly. 7. But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: 8. Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. 9. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? 10. In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. 11. Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat? 12. With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.
The passage before us today is a typical example of what people pass through on a daily basis. A situation whereby our friends, well-wishers and families only recognize us when things are moving well or rosy with us is not the best. They tend to call us sweet names, pay us several visits with good food and render good services to us. But once we are faced with the challenges of life and they discover that the wealth has disappeared, then their true attitude towards us will manifest. They will turn to cajole and make mockery of us, just as Job’s friends did to him in verse 4.
Beloved, I have good news for you today. God is aware of every situation – even yours. He is aware of what we pass through, our pains, afflictions and all our hidden predicaments, which nobody around us may have knowledge of. He knows about the rejection, the abandonment, the denial, the hatred and conspiracy against us for the sake of the gospel. Nothing is hidden in His sight.
I therefore enjoin us to hope and trust in God, by making positive confessions over our lives. Say boldly that sickness attacking you is not unto death because in His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. He will not forsake you in that situation. As God did not forsake Daniel in the den of lions; nor Job in his travail; nor Hannah in her barrenness; nor Paul and Silas in prison, He will surely neither forget nor forsake you if you cry unto Him in your hour of need. He is God.
HYMN: EMHB 371 (220.127.116.11.8.8.)
1: AND can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Saviour’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me!
2: Tis mystery all! The Immortal dies:
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the first-born seraph tries
To sound the depths of love divine.
Tis mercy all! Let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
3: He left His Father’s throne above-
So free, so infinite His grace-
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race.
Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me!
4: Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray-
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
5: No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ, my own.
Job 12:9 “Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?”
PRAYER: Thank You, Lord, for knowing my situation and for caring for me. Help me to remain stable and faithful to thee in times of difficulties in Jesus’ name. Amen.
