SAT. 23rd FEB, 2019

TEXT: Psalm 1:1 – 4;
1. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

Prov. 4: 14 – 15
14. Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. 15. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

Many people today have been ruined on account of bad friends they keep while some are being denied of their blessings, joy, victory and breakthrough because of the company they keep. Moving with bad company is very destructive. Destinies have been truncated by bad friendship. Moving with bad company may also gradually lead one into sin. God has never and will never tolerate sin of any kind.

Psalm 1:1 says,” Blessed is the man, Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful.” This means that if we really want to be blessed by God, we need to stay away from wicked and rebellious people, because bad company corrupts good character (1Corinth. 15:33). People always judge you by the company you keep –good or bad.

As Christians, we must remain faithful and be committed to God’s Word and strive to live holy and righteous lives that would make sinners to surrender their lives to Christ. As all good people desire to make others good like themselves, so all bad people desire to make their companions to be as bad as they are.

Sin is a contagious plague that can be communicated to any man or woman who is not rooted in Christ. So, tell God, who knows the end from the beginning, to choose the right friend or company for you.

People of God, we should not love the world, neither the things that are in it. We should always remember that evil company attracts God’s wrath. Even in marriage, ask God to choose the right partner for you. Make the Bible your standard and great companion too, and in this way keep bad companies away from you.

1: WHAT a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

2: Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged:
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness:
Take it to the Lord in prayer!

3: Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee.
Thou wilt find a solace there.

MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 4:10 “Hear, my son, and accept my words, that the years of your life may be many.”

PRAYER: Gracious God, help us to choose our friends and remove from us those who will
not contribute meaningfully to our progress and well-being in Jesus’ name. Amen.
