When I was to sit for Mathematics during my S.S.C.E., an instruction I had in my head was to avoid shortcuts to my answers, especially in the theory part. According to my tutors, the final answers carry just a fraction of the total marks. The bulk of the marks are in the processes leading to the final answers. 11 days!! That’s what it would have taken the Israelites to move from Horeb to Kadesh Barnea, which bordered the promised land of Canaan(Deut.1:2).
It was a shortcut. But God decided against it! Why? “Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.” Exo.13:17 Shortcuts are easier.
Shortcuts are faster. But God doesn’t do shortcuts because He is much more interested in building capacity, tenacity and perseverance.
This is the truth: Where you are going is not far. But God takes you through all manner of roads, alleys and streets to strengthen you, sharpen your spiritual sensitivity, purge your motive and deflate your sense of self-importance!
The more obediently you follow His lead, the faster He takes you to your ‘promised land’!
