Theme: How Is Your Appetite?
Passage: Matthew 5:1 – 11
Appetite is defined as strong desire for something. In life everyone has appetite for one thing or the other. In our nation, there is appetite to get rich quickly, have power, be influential and acquire property. These kinds of appetite destroy destiny without notice. But appetite that will glorify God is what God wants Christians to pursue.
Not long after Jesus commenced His earthly ministry people discovered that His words and way of life were different from others before Him and His contemporaries, hence multitude’s followed Him anywhere He went. The multitude knew He had words of comfort, encouragement, love, peace, and eternal life. At the sermon on the mountain, Jesus deliberately chose the mountain so that everyone could see and hear Him. He led them on a retreat and started on the message of the beatitudes because He saw that they had appetite for the Word of truth.
What God expects from us is to have appetite to read, meditate, hear, and speak the Word. The Word of God keeps us away from sin, exposes the antics of Satan; gives insight to life’s ventures; keeps faith alive; gives hope to those in despair; the testimonies in it give assurance that God is alive working on our life’s challenges and it assures us of our eternal home. Brothers and Sisters create passion for God’s Word for you to be blessed and be a blessing to everyone around you.
MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled.”
HYMN: MHB 310 – WHEN quiet in my house I sit
PRAYER: Eternal Lord, let me always have appetite for Your Word and to speak it boldly to others and to bring them to Thee in Jesus’ name. Amen
