Theme: Take A Rest
Passage: Genesis 2:1-3
It has been said that those who refuse to take a rest will be laid to rest before their time. Many people try to live two or three days in a day and the results are always painful and disastrous.
God created many wonderful things during the six days of creation, but the climax of the creation week was, “God’s rest” after His work. God sanctified work as well as rest. Jesus in Mark 6:31 instructed the Apostles to come away to a secluded place and rest a while.
Brethren, God knows the demand placed on our lives and he is also aware that there is only so much a person can do physically. Our Body needs rest just as our soul needs constant refreshment in God’s word. Rest strengthens us, renews our bodies, and enhances our minds towards better reasoning proficiency.
Resting requires mentally stepping away from the high demands of life. It does not mean that you by pass responsibility. Failure to take rest can lead to distraction, confusion, frustration, bitterness breakdown of body system.
Many pastors have died for lack of rest and many ‘workaholic’ personalities are no more because they failed to rest. Therefore, always make out time to rest from spiritual and physical exhaustion. Remember that God buries his worker yet his work continues.
MEMORY VERSE: Genesis 2:3. “Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made”.
HYMN: MHB 551 – O LORD, how happy should we be.
PRAYER: Help me Lord to know when to rest and deny me not your eternal rest. Amen
