Theme: Give Thanks
Passage: Psalm 148:71
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 150:6 “Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord, praise the Lord.”
HYMN: MHB 428 – I WILL praise my maker while I have breath.
The anonymous Psalmist here breaks forth in universal praise. The heavens and all its denizens (animals, plants, people, angels, etc) are urged to praise the Lord: the terrestrials are to praise Him too. This reminds us of George William Conder’s Hymn – EMHB 29-urging “all things” to praise the Lord and give thanks.
When one receives gifts, the heart is overwhelmed with joy because gifts are normally given voluntarily. This makes the recipient to engage in thanksgiving, to show appreciation to the giver. This obviously explains the reason the psalmist called all that exist to give praise to God. The living and all that are created are asked to return praise to the One who brought all things into existence.
One may ask: “How can I praise God when I am experiencing challenges?” Ephesians 5:20 urges us to give thanks always. When you recognize the existence of God and that you are not better than those in the mortuary, you will have a reason to thank God. When you praise God, He will raise you up. Count your blessings; name them one by one and it will surprise you what God has done.
Don’t give up; it is not yet over until it is over. There was a man in a country. He was to be summarily executed for his alleged involvement in a coup plot but God saved him and later he became the nation’s president a few years after. Is your case as bad as that? Give Him thanks. It is comely to do so because God is good.
Whatever you may be passing through now, simply begin to give thanks to God for what He has done already. May your case be settled this new month. Where others fail, you will succeed, December blessings will never elude you. Go forth and shine and be thankful to God always. Your miracle is on the way. Claim it.
PRAYER: God, give me the grace to give thanks to You no matter the situation in Jesus’ name. Amen.
