MESSAGE

It is normal for one to utilize every opportunity one has to retaliate against a wrong doing one received some time before. But in the passage read this morning, Bro. Joseph who was divinely lifted to the position of prime minister had every authority to retaliate what his brothers did to him by selling him into slavery. This negative thought was not in his mind, like many of us would have done. After all, was it not God who elevated him from a prisoner status to a prime minister position? Instead of bearing grudges he showed them benevolence and care.

Therefore, instead of retaliating we should, like Joseph, let people who covertly or overtly were used against us, understand that it was God who permitted whatever had happened for His divine purpose.

Hence, we should not pursue our selfish interest but the interest of all -including those who wronged us in the past, knowing fully well that it was not by our power or might that the enemy’s plan failed but only by God’s grace and enablement that have propelled us into that position of honour we now occupy.

So, whoever we are in our positions of authority politically, economically, socially etc. it is to use it for the welfare of others including those who wronged us or those who were used against us directly or indirectly. Only then can we fulfil the purpose and mandate of God for such positions in our lives.

PRAYER: Lord, let me be a blessing to others, including those who wronged me, through my exalted position to the glory of Your name for Christ’s sake. Amen.
