Theme: Born Free
Passage: Galatians 4:21-31
MEMORY VERSE: Galatians 4:31; “So, brethren we are not children of the slave but of the free woman.”
HYMN: MHB 422 – Blessed Assurance, Jesus is name.
In our world today, men delightedly seek for freedom -freedom from bondage, sickness, debt and external control. Paul, in his Epistle to the Galatians stressed on our origin, which we are, and where we came from, which is the seed of Abraham. Though Abraham had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac as recorded in verse 22, of the passage, the good news is that we, Christians, are the children God had promised Abraham just as Isaac was. We are heirs of the heavenly Jerusalem and not the slave woman, Hagar.
The verse 29 of the passage tells us that as he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. Christians are always persecuted all over the world for no just cause. In our country, churches have been burnt down while many Christians have been killed in cold blood. As it was then so it is now and we must bear it with heroic fortitude for the crown of glory awaiting us in heaven.
Therefore, beloved in Christ, there is no cause for alarm, over any circumstances, challenges or problems facing us today, our origin and birth are from above. However, if you have not accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, you are still under the law of the slave woman. And if it be so, you have no inheritance in Christ, just like God instructed Abraham to send away the slave woman and her son (Ishmael) in vs. 30. But, if you can make up your mind today to accept the finished work of Christ on the Cross, God is ever ready to accept you back to Himself, not minding the nature of the offence you may have committed.
PRAYER: O! Lord, thank You for giving me the opportunity to be born of the free woman, thereby making me a co-heir of the heavenly Jerusalem in Jesus’ name. Amen.
