Theme: Reach Out
Passage: Luke 9:1-12
The passage for today unveils how Jesus sent out His disciples to reach out to people. He instructed them not to take anything along and what to do with those who welcome them and those who do not welcome them (Verses 3 to 5). Jesus’ heart desire is to see us reaching out to lost souls. The problem remains that some Christians find it difficult to even say “Jesus saves” to someone close to them let alone going out to preach. Ask yourself, “When last did I talk to someone about Jesus?”
In the 21st century, globalization of communication has provided us with various wonderful means of spreading the gospel. We stay online on social media for hours without talking about Jesus. We post information that does not edify the soul. Many do a lot of criminal things online. We need to make a change. Christ came for the sinners and we are His instruments to reach out to them. Ezekiel 3:7-9 says that God has made us watchmen and we are to warn people of their sins. If we see evil and refuse to warn and the person dies, God will require the person’s blood on our head, but if we warn the person, then we are free.
This implies that there are blessings for reaching out to sinners and there are consequences of not reaching out. Again, Christ instructed His disciples not to go along with anything. In our contemporary context, we should not allow anything to distract us from spreading the gospel to all, for it is the heart desire of Christ that all should come to repentance. There is no age barrier. All Christians, whether old or young, man or woman, are God-anointed evangelists. You can use your phone to evangelise. Your money can do it, too. Reaching out to sinners is a command and it is not negotiable (Matt. 28:19-20)
MEMORY VERSE: Luke 9:3, ‘Jesus said to the disciples, “Take nothing with you for the trip, no walking stick, no beggar’s bag, no food, no money, not even extra shirt.”‘
HYMN: MHB 338 – Rescue the perishing, care for the dying.
PRAYER: May God empower all our members to reach out to the perishing and give them the grace to win souls for Christ in Jesus’ name. Amen.
