THEME: BE PURE
PASSAGE: 1 THESSALONIANS 4:2-12
HYMN: MHB 571- Blessed are the pure in heart
MEMORY VERSE: 1 Thessalonians 4:4 “That each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honour”
In our text today, Apostle Paul told the Thessalonians things required to please God and to obtain sanctification. They are, among others, to abstain from fornication; sexual orgies; that no man defrauds his brother; walk in holiness; love one another, and be diligent in business and live exemplary lives that will attract those outside the fold of Christ.
God has not called us for the purpose of impurity but in sanctification. Consequently, he who rejects this is not rejecting man, but God, who gives His Holy Spirit to us. Now as to the love of the brethren, he said, we have no need for anyone to write to us, for we ourselves are taught by God to love one another; for indeed we do practise it. But he urged us, brethren, to excel still more, and to make it our ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to our own business diligently.
As people chosen for perfection, we are to make our body habitable for the spirit of God. Paul reiterated this by stressing in 2 Corinth. 6:14-16 that, every Christian is a temple of the living God and the temple should be devoid of wickedness, idolatry and darkness.
We cannot engage ourselves in fraudulent acts, fornication, adultery, hatred, bitterness, laziness, to mention few, and expect the Spirit of God to dwell in us. It is impossible. He only occupies redeemed, sanctified and pure vessels.
It is not too late to amend your ways. Remove every form of wickedness from your life, do away with sin, be obedient to the word of God and ask Christ to create in you the right Spirit.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father purifies my life to be a holy vessel unto you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
