THURSDAY 16TH JANUARY, 2020
THEME: THE BLESSEDNESS OF PURITY
PASSAGE: MATTHEW 5:1-13
HYMN: MHB 550–O for a heart to praise my God.
MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God”
We are not talking of the blessedness of the world at its best, but that of the Lord and His Purity. Unfortunately, many children of God are after the blessedness of the world. Yet, the scripture says, “The blessing of the Lord brings wealth and He adds no trouble to it” (Prov.10:22)
In the beatitude of Christ, the demand of all blessedness is purity. How can the heart of man which is desperately wicked be made clean? The Lord Jesus says “Now you are clean through the Word which I have spoken unto you” (John15:3)
It is by the washing of regeneration (the spiritual circumcision of the heart) that we are made clean. Only Christ through the Holy Spirit can cleanse us from all manner of sin (1John1:7). When we have Christ, truly we can confess as Paul declared to the Corinthians “as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing, as poor, yet making many rich, as having nothing and yet possessing all things” (2Cor.6:10)
Meekness is not produced by self-effort, but by the effort of the Holy Spirit in a Christian. The Word of God is a seed and when planted in good soil, it produces all blessings. “Of Him are ye in Christ Jesus who of God is made unto us wisdom, righteousness and sanctification and redemption (1Cor.1:30). Jesus Christ, our role model, is our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption as Apostle Paul says in 1 Cor. 1:30. If we allow Him and His word to abide in us we shall ask and receive whatever we ask from Him (John 15:7).
PRAYER: Holy Father, make holiness unto the Lord our watchword, banner and song now and forever in Jesus’ name. Amen.
