MESSAGE

To be one in Christ in this context today simply means to live Christ’s-like life. It is a transformed and renewed life, free from the old way of filthy and reckless living. You “put off” wretched, tattered and torn clothes in the spiritual realms and “put on” new clothes that have no stain.

Examples of the ill-fitting garments to be put off are made explicit in Vs 5 – 8; Sexual promiscuity, impurity, lust, doing whatever you feel like whenever you feel like doing it, and grabbing whatever attracts your fancy and coveting whatever your eye sees.

Such garments also include uncontrolled temper, irritability, profanity, utterances that do not glorify God, tribalism, discrimination and favouritism. Living this way is nothing but a life shaped by the devil, instead of living a life shaped by God.

What we need to do is to accept the new clothes from heaven’s wardrobe customized with Christ’s life with the emblem of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, peace, discipline, being soft tempered, contentment, quick to forgive, and, above all, love, which is our general-purpose tool for service in God’s assignment.

With Christ at the centre of our actions and thoughts, we are also to do our best to let the peace of God flow ceaselessly through our hearts to others. It is then we can grow together in the unity of faith unto maturity in Christ. This is only possible when we accept each other just the way we are in Christ, thereby forming a formidable host – a great Army of the Lord to wage absolute war on Satan and his lieutenants.

PRAYER: O Lord, remove every ill-fitting behaviour from my life in order to put on all that gives glory, honour and adoration to Thy Holy name. Amen.
