WEDNESDAY 29TH JANUARY, 2020
THEME: SET ASIDE FOR GOD
PASSAGE: ACTS 13:1-15
HYMN: 868 – LORD and Saviour true and kind.
MEMORY VERSE Acts 13:2 “While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
To be set aside is to be separated for a special assignment. As Christians, we are sent by God to this world for a special task and not just a product of coincidence. Just like God’s word in Jeremiah 1:5, we are chosen and approved by God to fulfil a particular mandate on the earth.
God wants His children to look out for souls that have wandered away into the world, rescue those that are perishing, restore the erring ones and lift up the fallen.
Apart from this broad assignment, which is meant for all Christians, God may be calling you, like Paul and Barnabas in our text today, for a special assignment. There are two ways to respond to this call as we see in our text under divine guidance. One way is to go yourself and the other way is to send those going. (Acts 13:3).
We can be the ones who are willing to be set apart and sent like Barnabas and Paul; or the group who, after serious prayer, will lay hands on them and send them off.
But beloved, what is more, paramount in the heart of God is first for one to be set aside from sin and ungodliness. Hebrews 12:1 enjoins us to lay aside every weight and sin, which chinks; and run the race with perseverance.
This is an urgent matter in the heart of God that requires an urgent response by everyone He created. Let us wake up and answer “Here I am, send me “like Prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 6:8)
PRAYER: Lord, help us to be submissive and faithful at our duty posts for You in Jesus’ name. Amen
