TUESDAY 4TH FEBRUARY, 2020
THEME: SEEK GOD AND LIVE
PASSAGE: AMOS 5:14-27
HYMN: MHB 402 – FAITH of our fathers, living still
MEMORY VERSE: Amos 5:6 “Seek the Lord and live, Lest He breaks out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, with no one to quench it in Bethel”.
Seek is another word for search. When God asked Israel to seek good and live, He was invariably asking them to search out for His will, His instructions or His counsels. God’s instructions lead to everlasting life. God’s instructions are contained in the Holy Scriptures. They are for those who love the Lord and love to please Him.
The Israelites thought that the Lord would be pleased with them as long as they observed the Jewish feast, offered sacrifices, sang praise with string instruments and came together for a sacred assembly. But the Lord made them realized that He was not interested in their hypocritical worship because the chosen people of God were just being religious, their hearts were far away from God (Isaiah 29:13).
What God wants from His people are justice and righteousness v.24. However, with the situation of this world, not many people seek God’s instructions any more. People just love to please themselves or love to do what others are doing.
Like the Israelites, people have become selfish, envious, bitter to other success, greedy, perverting justice at will, ruthless for sudden wealth and comfortable with sin. There are many churches with different denominations, but few sincere worshippers.
The topic for today is not negotiable, but a command from God, for those who want to have the peace that surpassed the comprehension of the world and gain eternity. Seek justice, care for the needy, rescue the perishing, let your righteousness be rooted in Christ and you shall live eternally. Jesus Christ enjoins believers Matthew 25: 31-46, who are heavenly focused to feed those who are hungry, give water to those thirsty, take care of the sick, visit those in prison, clothe the naked, to mention few. These will enable them to escape everlasting punishment.
PRAYER: Lord, as You have made me discover You, make me remain steadfast in Jesus’ name.
