THEME: DO THE NEEDFUL
PASSAGE: MICAH 6:1-8
HYMN: MHB 678 – A CHARGE to keep I have
MEMORY VERSE: Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?”
In today’s text, Prophet Micah revealed God’s anger against Israel because of their sins; they were weary of God’s worship and they were accused of idolatry. God began to require from them what He had done to warrant such abandonment.
The following are the needful as declared by Prophet Micah in verse 8 of our text:
*TO DO JUSTLY:* This means to be morally right; upright; correct; righteous; proper; fair. To do justly would mean to live right with God. Before a man can do justly, he must have had an encounter with God and become transformed into a new life in Christ.
*TO LOVE MERCY:* This is having compassion; a heart of forgiveness; forbearance. The virtue of mercy will exhibit compassion on the less-privileged or the poor. Christ taught us to feed the poor and take care of the widow. Christ made it clear that when we take care of the poor, we are doing it for Him (Mt. 25:35-40).
* WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD:* To walk humbly or be humble is to have a low opinion of oneself, not proud nor arrogant; you are modest and submissive. It is always said that humility is the mark of the believer. Walking humbly with God would mean submission to all that God commands. The proud man will find it difficult to submit to God’s injunctions.
As God asked the stiff-necked Israelites of old, He is also asking us to do the needful today – do justly, love mercy and compassion and walk humbly before Him. These are the secrets of long life and prosperity which everyone should aspire to know and put into practice. God bless you as you do so henceforth.
PRAYER: Almighty God, grant me the grace to submit myself and allow You in my life.
