FRIDAY 7TH FEBRUARY, 2020
THEME: MAXIMIZE YOUR GIFT
PASSAGE: 1TIMOTHY 4:7-14
MEMORY VERSE: 1Timothy 4:14 “Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.”
HYMN: MHB 717- HELP us to help each other, Lord.
Gifts are bestowed on believers by God for effectiveness in kingdom service. When gifts are given, the recipients ought to labour to keep the gift working. Hence the administration of not neglecting it (1 Timothy 4:14). The Bible says, “We then, as workers together with Him also, plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain” (1 Timothy 6:1).
The exhortation speaks as the parable of the talents told by Jesus in Matthew chapter 25:14-30. The travelling businessman called his servants and l gave each of them an amount of money to trade with. To one he gave five talents, to another two and to the third, he gave one. The first two traded with their money and gained double of what was given them, while the third went and buried his own talent. While the first two servants maximized their talents, the third buried his.
When God gives us gifts, He will not come down to use them for us. God may only direct us on how to use them profitably, but not He using them for us. In today’s text, we are exhorted to exercise ourselves in godliness (verse 7); to teach (verse 11); be an example of believers (verse 12); give attendance to reading; exhortation and doctrine (13). All these are our own part to play in maximizing our gifts.
Ask God to help you to identify His gift in your life, grant you grace to maximize it and to be humble in the use of the gift/gifts. The more you exercise, the more you build up. Remember, the One who gave the gifts will certainly reward accordingly. So be diligent and Prayerful.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to be diligent in whatever I do, exercising myself in all godliness and faithfulness all my days in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
