FRIDAY 14TH FEBRUARY, 2020
THEME: YOU ARE BUILT FOR GOD’S PURPOSE
PASSAGE: 1 PETER 2:1-10
HYMN: MHB 702 – CHRIST is our Corner-Stone
MEMORY VERSE: 1 Peter 2:5 “You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
When we receive Christ as Lord and Saviour, our sins are forgiven and our lives are redeemed and transformed into that of a child of God. Although we were once in all forms of disobedience and transgression, now we are being built up as a living stone (structure or house) for God. Stones don’t have life and cannot do anything of its own, but we are made a living stone. Sinners cannot offer any acceptable worship to God – they are dead!
God has turned our deadness of a stone to a living one by His miraculous salvation which He did in us through Christ. The transformation portrays the turning of dead bones to living souls like that of Ezekiel’s revelation in the valley of dead bones (Ezekiel Chapter 37). There is no place God desires to live than our heart. He does not live in a house made with hands. God asked King David (II Samuel 7:7).
Brother/Sister, God will not prepare goats or dogs as people for Himself. He will not even consider sheep no matter how timid or obedient they may be. We are made in God’s image and that’s why God desires fellowship with us. However, God cannot choose to live in a man that is corrupted with sin. That is why our text for today started with “…laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil-speaking, as new-born babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby” (I Peter 2:1-2).
What could prevent God from dwelling in your heart? You will need to deal with them by turning your life up to Christ for salvation and allow God to build you up a living ‘stone’, whose sacrifices are made acceptable to God through Christ.
PRAYER: Lord, build me and make my heart a house for You that will never be removed.
