THEME: Opportunity For Repentance
PASSAGE: 2 Peter 3:1-18
HYMN: MHB 199- JESUS, keep me near the Cross
MEMORY VERSE: 1 Timothy 2: 3-4 “This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
MESSAGE
Apostle Peter, analyzing the great day of the Lord, also reminded the Church of the words spoken in the past by the prophets and the commands given by Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour through the Apostles. The biblical text states that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires whereby challenging the coming of the Lord. We must be warned.
It also shows the consistency of the Lord that God intervened during the time of Noah. He flooded the earth as a judgment against humanity and its debased nature. He will do it again, though not with water anymore. God is consistent in His interventions. Next, He will judge the world completely with fire.
God, therefore, made available every opportunity for humanity to come to repentance. Various individuals like Saul who later became Paul, Jonah, King David, Moses etc. in the scripture were given adequate opportunities which they utilized and came to total repentance.
In the present-day world, sinners are not sidelined from the programme of God as long as they are ready to repent. Isaiah 1:18-19 shows God’s willingness to accept, forgive and welcome a sinner back to His base if the sinner can accept his/her fault, plead for forgiveness and ask for grace and sin no more.
Here is the good news. The way to salvation is always free to those who are ready to patiently walk through it. Finally, God is always interested in our well-being and He is available to create opportunities for our repentance because He is not interested in our eternal death.
PRAYER: Immortal and Invisible God, open my eyes and mind to discern and understand those opportunities created for my repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
