MONDAY 16TH MARCH, 2020
THEME: Consequences of Disobeying God
PASSAGE: 1 Samuel 28:1-20
HYMN: MHB 504 – LEAVE God to order all your ways.
MEMORY VERSE: 1 Samuel 28:6 “And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets”.
At a time in the life of king Saul, while Samuel was still alive, he rid the land of Israel of all cultists associated with sorcery and witchcraft. But on this occasion, when the Philistines gathered their armies together to fight with Israel, Saul was afraid, and thus turned to any source of comfort. Since the spirit of the Lord had left Saul, he went for any reassurance that might bring him relief from his fear. He went to the witch of Endor, a vestige of Canaanite religiosity, and requested that she brings out the spirit of Samuel.
The request of Saul was immediately granted. Consequently, the spirit of Samuel declared the judgment of God on Saul, because he disobeyed Him.
God became the enemy of Saul for disobedience to His instruction through Prophet Samuel. Saul failed to ruthlessly destroy the Amalekites, who had taken advantage of the weakness of Israel when the nation came out of the Egyptian bondage (1 Samuel 15).
The disobedience of King Saul to the instruction of God resulted in the following:
– He lost his throne to David, his armour bearer (1 Samuel 16:1-13).
– The spirit of God left him and it was replaced by an evil spirit from God (1 Samuel 16:14.
– He lost the grace of communicating and relationship with God (1 Samuel 28:6).
– He lost His three sons in the Battle with the Philistines (1 Samuel 31:1-6).
– He lost his life in the same battle (1 Samuel 31:1-6).
Brethren, is there any act of disobedience in your life? Kindly ask for forgiveness and change for good. Disobedience is a rebellious act, and the word of God says, it is tantamount to witchcraft.
PRAYER: Holy Spirit, deliver me from every form of disobedience and rebellious acts in Jesus’ name. Amen.
