MONDAY 23RD MARCH, 2020
THEME: Marks of True Love
PASSAGE: 1 John 4:7-21
HYMN: MHB 435 – LOVE is the key to life and death
MEMORY VERSE: 1 John 4:20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.
Agape love is the love-feast of Christians. It is the perfect love one Christian has for the other. The early Christians ate together, shared things together and prayed together in one accord. This was why miracles happened and the church grew numerically every day. (Acts 2:42-47)
It is disheartening to note that the Christianity our great fathers handed over to us is not the one we are practising today. In many churches today, people are scared not knowing who to relate with as friends and who their enemies are. Even ministers of God are sceptical of discussing freely with fellow ministers. Yet we eat of the table of the Lord. The love of position, money, influence, and selfishness have led us astray. We claim to love God we do not see when we hate fellow brothers we see daily.
We are called to love one another just as early believers in Christ, who were of one mind, one heart and soul, and shared what they had freely. Some, for the sake of others, sold all they had (Acts 4:32-37) and shared them with those who had nothing.
Brethren, let our love be expressed in our actions towards one another. if one is offended, let him forgive. If another is in danger, rescue. The only law we have towards one another is the law of love. If we speak in tongues of angels and of men and there is no love we are heading to nowhere. Let us, love, for that, is our identity to the world. Practical love is the acid test that reveals us as true Christians. It is the mark of being “born again” in Christ Jesus.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, help us to love one another genuinely in action and do away with infatuation in Jesus’ name. Amen.
