FRIDAY 10TH APRIL, 2020 (GOOD FRIDAY)
THEME: A GOOD FRIDAY TO HIM AND TO US
PASSAGE: JOHN 19:15-30
HYMN: MHB 809 -I CANNOT tell why He, whom angels worship’
MEMORY VERSE: John 19:30″When Jesus, therefore, had received the vinegar, He said, it is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost.”
Today is ca celebration days for humanity. We remember it because it was the day Jesus took our place of suffering, eternal judgment, eternal annihilation, complete separation from God when He hung on that shameful cross beside two shameless thieves. Those thieves represent humanity. At our best, we are not better than them because we all belong to the same level of decadence. No wonder God regretted creating us in Gen 6:5-6. It ought to gladden our hearts that such a holy and sinless man, Jesus, identified with sinners on the Cross.
Today is not only a celebration day for us; it is also ca celebration days for Jesus in heaven, too, for joyfully fulfilling the painful assignment God sent Him to do. The assignment that could only be achieved by dying on the Cross; no more, no less. Remember that right from the beginning of the birth of Jesus, Satan wanted to prevent and obstruct this by planning to kill him (Matt 2:8,12-13). When this failed, Satan tempted Him and wanted to give Him the whole world just to make Him avoid crucifixion( Luke 4:5-7.
Again, at our Lord’s last hours on earth, Satan almost made Him back out from the divine purpose, when He was in agony and He cried, ‘Abba, Father, all things are possible unto Thee; take away this cup from Me: nevertheless, not what I will, but what Thou wilt (Mark 14:36). You can imagine the joy of Jesus when on the Cross He said ‘It is finished’ and commended His humble Spirit into God’s hands. What more can we say, Good Friday is really good. Rejoice for ‘Christ has purchased full salvation’ for us at Calvary.
PRAYER: Give thanks to God for sending Jesus to die for our total redemption from sin and death.a
