MESSAGE

The slogan of the Women’s Fellowship of Methodist Church Nigeria is: ‘We are the light of the World.’ In John 8:12 Jesus Christ said “I am the Light of the World.” What did Jesus mean by this statement? It means that the darkness or evil never has, and never will overcome or extinguish God’s light. Jesus Christ is the Creator of life, and His life brings light to mankind. When we follow Jesus, the true Light, He lightens the path ahead of us so that we can see how to walk or run.

Jesus spoke those words in the part of the temple where the candles burned to symbolize the pillar of fire that led the people of Israel through the desert (Exodus 13:21, 22). The pillar of fire represented God’s presence, protection and guidance. Thus, as the Light, Jesus brings God’s presence into our lives.

Whoever follows Jesus Christ as a believer must also be the light to others as explained in Matt. 5:13-15. As light shines and darkness flees, Christians must chase out darkness wherever they find themselves – in offices, homes, gatherings, etc, and they must not allow darkness or evil to thrive.

As a soldier follows and obeys the orders of his commander, so we should follow and obey Christ, our Commander. It is then that we are walking in the Light and it will lighten our path, illuminate our lives, attract people in darkness to God through us and people shall praise God through our lifestyle. As we follow the laws of our nation, so we should follow the laws of the Kingdom of heaven so that our names can be written in the Book of Life.

PRAYER: As I want to walk in Your light always, help me to be light to others and lead me in everything I do in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
