MESSAGE

The Body of Christ is meant to function in the same manner that a physical body functions: The body is one with many members, and all the members work together for a purpose (I Corinthians 12:12). The unity and interdependence of the body is an example of how spiritual gifts influence the Church. Spiritual gifts are part of the very nature of God, given to us, to use in fulfilling His purposes in our lives.

In his letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul clearly explained the purpose of spiritual gifts. “The Holy Spirit displays God’s power through each of us as a means of helping the entire church” (1 Cor. 12:7 TLB). He also gave several kinds of gifts such as the gift of wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues.

God gave spiritual gifts “to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12–13).

As we use our spiritual gifts, the Body of Christ will be edified, unified, and mature; we will avoid deception by Satan and by wicked men; and we will grow in Christ to the glory of our God.

The Holy Spirit is the One who produces love in our hearts and this love binds everything together in perfect harmony. Therefore, when the Holy Spirit is working strongly in a church to manifest God’s presence and gift, one evidence will be a beautiful harmony in the church community and overflowing love for one another.

PRAYER: Oh Lord my God, help me from today to manifest that gift that will bring unity to your church in Jesus’ name. Amen.
