WEDNESDAY 27TH MAY, 2020 (CHILDREN’S DAY)
THEME: Nurse It For Me
PASSAGE: Exodus 2:1-10
HYMN: MHB 656 ‘AROUND the throne of God in heaven.
MEMORY VERSE: Exodus 2:9 “And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it”.
All of us passed through the childhood phase when we were small. Then we were weak and assisted to do everything including feeding, talking, walking, sleeping, and playing. It is a realization that should humble us, but, we don’t always think about it. Our present state of strength, wealth, and accomplishments make us forget that we were once defenseless babies and children. How did we, who were once tiny, grow up to become this strong and endowed? It is by God’s Grace.
As we celebrate Children’s Day, let us remember that the little baby, Moses, in today’s passage, was at a time helpless, but when he grew up God used him to lead the children of Israel out of bondage in Egypt. However, let us take note of what Pharaoh’s daughter said about Moses: “And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.’
Parents need to understand that their children need to be nursed, nurtured, cared for, provided for, encouraged, and trained. Pharaoh’s daughter was willing to pay someone to do all that. But who would pay us to train our children? God would pay us for doing it and you would definitely benefit from it when they grow up.
What about orphaned babies or those thrown in the bush by some shameless people? How about children who are victims of wars, insurgents, and ethno-religious crisis? God loves them! It’s godly and loving action to adopt them as our children, as Moses was adopted. Other forms of support can be offered.
All children come from God and it is our responsibility to care for them. Let us celebrate them today in our own way. Proverbs 17:6 states that “Children are the crown of old men and the glory of children are their fathers.” You will live to reap the benefits of your labour and your children shall be for signs and wonders in Jesus’ name. Amen.
PRAYER: Ask for God’s Grace and wherewithal to take care of your children. Pray for childless couples, orphans, the abused and the neglected in your community and around the world
