THEME: REDEEM YOUR VOW
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 1:17-28
HYMN: EMHB 400 – TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE
MEMORY VERSE: Ecclesiastes 5:5
“It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfil it”.
A vow is a solemn promise made to God to perform a miracle. One of the worthiest things to do in life is to fulfil a promise right from your heart. A man was in a plane and, suddenly, information got to the passengers that it was unfortunate that the weather condition was no longer conducive for the plane to land and everyone should say his/her last prayers. A multi-millionaire in the plane knelt down and said, “God if you spare my life, I will give you half of all my wealth”. Shortly it was announced that the weather was clear and the plane landed safely. The multi-millionaire on arrival considered all his wealth and said, “Oh! I was too hasty to have made the promise”.
It is better not to make a vow or promise than to make a vow without fulfilling it. It is sinful. Many people, like the multi-millionaire, make rash vows or pledges which they fail to fulfil. It is very bad.
Hannah with the support of her husband was faithful to her promise and did not only return the boy, Samuel as she promised, but she also went with gifts (verses 23-24).
Is there any small vow you ever made to God or even man and failed to fulfil? Remember Ecclesiastes 5:4 commands you to fulfil your vow now. Do not delay any more because Verse 5 of Ecclesiastes chapter 5 makes it clear that instead of vowing to please the congregation and failing to fulfil it at last, you should not even try to vow.
Please, make haste to fulfil your vow today; failure to do so may slow down your progress.
Dear Lord, forgive me in all the ways that I have failed in promises made and give me grace to fulfil my vows in Jesus’ name. Amen.
