THEME: No Future For The Wicked
PASSAGE: 2 Kings 10:1-17
HYMN: MHB 327 SINNERS turn why will ye die
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 37:38 “But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed: The end of the wicked shall be cut off.”
Wickedness begets wickedness. Ahab, the 8th king of Israel, wickedly took Naboth’s vineyard and also killed him. Elijah was sent by God to pronounce judgment on Ahab and his wife, Jezebel, for the death of Naboth. Ahab killed only one person (Naboth) but Jehu killed the 70 sons and grandsons of Ahab as well as Ahab’s priests of Baal and other members of the family. Ahab was described as being more wicked than “Jeroboam who made Israel sin.” No wicked person, it will be seen from the story, can escape judgment.
You may think that nobody sees you when you are doing evil. The all-seeing and the all-knowing God sees you, because nothing is hidden from Him. Every ungodly act cannot go unpunished no matter how long it may be. Every act done in secret, too, will be known in public and adequately rewarded. King Ahab and his wife, Jezebel, did what they did to Naboth because they were powerful and thought that nobody could stop or punish them. God is always there to punish the offender at the appointed time.
Apostle Paul’s epistle to Galatians, 6:7 says “Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man(or a woman, boy or girl) sows that shall he (or she) also reap.” Interestingly, what you reap is always more than what you sow. If you sow the wind, you will reap the whirlwind. Let us, therefore, sow good seeds so that we may reap a bountiful and good harvest.
Beloved in Christ, every act of wickedness, backbiting, ungodly attitudes has repercussions at the end of the day. Jesus says I am coming soon with my recompense to give to individual according to his/her deeds (Rev 22:12). Let us repent from our sins for there is no future for the wicked.
PRAYER: Father, remove every root of wickedness that might spring up in me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
