PASSAGE: Psalm 73:2-28
HYMN: MHB 528- IN Heavenly love abiding
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart fall, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
MESSAGE
Psalm 73 was the first of twelve Psalms composed by Asaph, a brilliant composer and singer in king David’s large choir in tabernacle worship. The Psalm sounds a very strong warning to workers and believers who may be tempted to be envious of the prosperity of the wicked and the ungodly. This is because a believer may backslide when he sees the ungodly people prospering. He may fail to appreciate what the good God had done for him, and allow his feet to slip away from the way of righteousness.
Asaph said that, when pride compasses the wicked as a necklace and violence like a garment, they blaspheme against God, saying that God is ignorant of the evil they commit. Such people, he says, tread on slippery grounds and their ill-gotten gain destroyed in the end.
Brothers and sisters, it is the blessing of God that makes one rich without adding any sorrow. He is the One who can promote as psalm 75:6 says. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, says in Matt. 16:26 that “For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Ponder on these words on marble.
As you work hard and pray, rest your hope in God and let Him guide every facet of your life. Asaph declared his trust in God who did not allow his feet to slip. Don’t envy the prosperity of the wicked and it shall be well with you Amen.
PRAYER: Most gracious God, draw me closer to You and teach me to always depend on You in whatever situation I may face. Teach me to always base my hope and reality on You Lord. Amen!
