TIME: Pray With Faith
TEXT: Mark 11:20-26
HYMN: MHB: 238- MY faith looks up to Thee,
MEMORY VERSE: Mark 11:24 “Therefore… what things soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
A close examination of today’s passage reveals the ingredients of prayer. These are Active Faith in God; Avoidance of grudges or doubt; Forgiving Spirit and Avoidance of repetition.
In addition to the above points, Christ emphasized more on active faith. This became visible when Peter asked Him why the fig tree earlier cursed withered. The answer Jesus Christ supplied in verses 22 & 23 unravelled the secret which is “FAITH.” However, explaining further, the role active faith plays in prayer is not to undermine the importance of the other factors, but the point of emphasis is that even when other ingredients are strictly observed, any prayer that lacks active faith will result to effort in futility.
“FAITH” is the connecting rod between man and God. Therefore, it is neither the noise nor the shaking of heads and hands that determine the quality of any prayer but FAITH. What determines the effect of prayer is the quality of active faith involved. If you go to the top of Mt Everest to pray without faith, that prayer cannot be answered. With faith, you can pray in your room and get an answer!
The above can only be justified when one considers the way and manner the woman with an issue of blood got her healing (Mark 5:25-34). She thought, “If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed.” What faith! What simple way to get rid of the precarious situation! She resolved to approach the matter in a simple but well-developed attitude and lifestyle to terminate her age-long problem on that day. It wouldn’t cost her anything more than just to touch the cloth of the Master.
Cultivate an attitude of simple but-a- well-developed-and-nurtured faith in the name of Jesus, the name that is above every other name and begin to experience an unprecedented turn-around in every area of your life as you step out this morning.
PRAYER: O God, In the midst of so many challenges of life, grant me faith to pray and overcome them for Christ’s sake. Amen.
