THEME: The Faithful Shall be Remembered
PASSAGE: Malachi 3:13-18
HYMN: MHB 504- LEAVE God to order all thy ways
MEMORY VERSE: Malachi 3:16 “Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, And the Lord listened and heard them; a book of remembrance was written before Him, For those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name.”
Malachi 3: 13-18 speaks about two groups of people and their dispositions towards God. The first group are the impertinent and defiant people, while the second is faithful, who will be remembered by God.
The faithful have their faith rooted in God and in His Son, Jesus Christ. They are loyal, trustworthy, constant in worshipping God and are obedient to the injunctions of God (Acts 5: 25). These are the people that will be remembered by God here in this world and in eternity.
To be remembered means not being forgotten; to be acknowledged and given preference; to be honoured. It is the innate desire of every mortal to be honoured. Nehemiah asked God to remember him for good (Nehemiah 5:19). Joseph asked the cup-bearer of Pharaoh to remember him “when it is well with you” (Genesis 40: 14). One of the thieves crucified at the right hand of Jesus asked to be remembered in Christ’s Kingdom (Luke 23: 39 – 43). Thus, the God of heaven will never forget the service of the faithful but remember them for good.
Brother/ Sister, if we are going to be remembered by God here and hereafter, then you must be faithful to Him. You must think about His name which is above every other name (Malachi 3: 16; Hebrews 10: 25). And above all, you must not forget to live holy and righteous lives, because the faithful who will be remembered by God is holy and sanctified ones (Matthew 5: 8, Hebrews 12: 14, Revelation 21: 27, Psalm 1: 1-3). Only the faithful will be remembered and spared when Jesus comes in judgment. Be faithful to God when nobody is watching you and when the going becomes tougher. Be faithful in paying your tithes, too, and to your fellow brothers and sisters.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to be faithful to You to the end in Jesus’ name. Amen.
