THEME: Time of Harvest
PASSAGE: Revelation 14:14–20
HYMN: MBH: 787-LORD of the Harvest, hear.
MEMORY VERSE: Revelation 14:15 And another angel came out of the temple, in heaven crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, “Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.”
Harvest, which is mostly linked to agriculture, is the process of gathering the ripened crops. But on a general note, harvest simply means product, result, or reward of any exertion or labour. In contrast to the beast, false prophet, and apostate Church (Rev. 13: 1- 18 ) and introduction to the announcement of judgments about to descend on them and the world (Rev. 14: 8- 11), anticipatory of Revelation 18: 2- 6, stands here the redeemed, “the divine kernel of humanity, the positive fruits of the history of the world and the Church.”
The fourteenth through sixteenth chapters of Revelation describes the preparations for the Messianic judgment. As the fourteenth chapter begins with the 144, 000 Israelites who are no longer exposed to trial, but now triumphant, the fifteenth chapter begins with those who have overcome from among the Gentiles. These two classes of elect form together with the whole company of transfigured saints who shall reign with Christ.
So “the harvest” (Revelation 14: 15) is the general assembly of Gentile saints to be translated by Christ as His first act in assuming His kingdom, prior to His judgment (Revelation 16:17–21) on the Anti-Christian world. Jesus in Matthew Chapter 13: 24-30, gives an illustration of this event. Matt. 13: 36-43, also gives a comprehensive explanation. Eventually, the Master will surely come to harvest the world.
Are you growing for the barn or for the fire? Remember God sees even the innermost thoughts of the heart which means that you and I cannot pretend before Him who is the righteous Judge. Therefore let us watch what we do here on earth because the harvest is ripe.
PRAYER: Oh Lord my God, help me to be constantly ready for your harvest. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
