FRIDAY 4TH DECEMBER, 2020
THEME: Steadfast In God’s Love
PASSAGE: Romans 8:28-39
HYMN: MHB 488 OFT in danger, oft in woe
MEMORY VERSE: Romans 8: 39. “Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Steadfast means being firm, ‘strong’, ‘unchanging’ and ‘immovable.’ The theme indicates that Christians have to strive with the grace of God to cope with challenges of life, knowing that God is Omniscience, Omnipotent and Omnipresent.
God inspired Apostle Paul in our text to tell us that in the Christian race challenges of life will rage with the aim to weaken our faith and attempt to derail us from the race. It may even go to the extent of suggesting to one to renounce one’s faith like Job’s friends and his wife suggested during his numerous travails. It does not mean God does not know about those unpleasant situations before they happen, nor is He powerless over them. But He allows them to happen for us to be more steadfast in the faith, to strengthen our love and wait on Him for victory.
Paul asked, ‘Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?’ What shall separate us from the love of Christ, too? This indicates the test of faith will come to us from known and unknown persons and things. All that Paul listed-trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger and sword- are what human beings can bring on our way in an attempt to shift our attention from God. But all these are not strong enough to turn our back against the Christian faith. When these happen, they have limited time and being steadfast in faith and in the love of Christ they quickly dispel or expire because Christ that is in you is stronger than the one in the world and nothing in life can overcome Him. 1John 4:4 states: “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them because greater is He that is in you than he (Satan) that is in the world.”
Resolve today like Paul that nothing and nobody will be able to separate you from the love of Christ, and the love of the Trinity.
PRAYER: Uphold me, Lord, with Your unfailing power to be steadfast in faith and love of Christ to the end in Jesus’ name. Amen.
