LENT: Gratitude

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

Today, in the world we live in, ingratitude and thanklessness are common phenomena. Children forget to thank their parents for all that they do. Common courtesy is scorned. We take for granted the ways that others help us. Above all, we fail to thank God for His blessings. But it is important to realise that gratitude can transform us if we make it a way of life.

Gratitude in all things is God’s will for us and it’s based on trusting his unfailing love. Even when things are not going according to our plans, even when things are a bit tough and we feel God has abandoned us, such circumstances can be tremendously difficult, but the bible still encourages us to give God thanks no matter what.

Whatever challenges we encounter in life, is a test of our faith and our attitude during this time would determine how strong we come out of the situation. As a true believer in Christ, when you are experiencing difficulties, the first place to start to deal with the issues is with yourself. The bible says in (1 Thessalonians 5:18) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. While giving thanks ‘in all circumstances might be difficult, while you might not be able to change your circumstances, you can certainly cooperate with God to change your situation, and the first step to achieving that is Gratitude to God.

Can you think of a time when God miraculously provided for you or answered prayer? What was your response? I am sure, you jumped up in praises and thanksgiving to him. What about when you fervently pray for something and it’s still not coming your way?  We shouldn’t base our practice of gratitude on the circumstances of our lives.  They can change in a heartbeat.

I implore you today, to grab a journal and pen down all you are grateful for. Start by thanking him for all he has done and all he hasn’t done, despite our circumstances and situation we have so much to be grateful for.

Remember, gratitude is the best form of attitude.
