THEME: CONDITIONS FOR HEALING AND FORGIVENESS
PASSAGE: 2 CHRONICLES 7:12-16
MEMORY VERSE: 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
HYMN: MHB 538 (220.127.116.11.D.) –WHAT a friend we have in Jesus.
God is ever ready to forgive and heal us but not without our responsibility. He requires us to first accept Him as our Lord, pray with humility, seek his face in faith and forsake our wicked ways. When Solomon finished dedicating the Jerusalem Temple and offered laudable prayers and sacrifices; God assured him of His presence and stipulated conditions that must be observed to enable Him to answer their prayers in times of famine and pestilence. This implies that prayers are useless when God’s conditions are neglected. Magnificent Temples and denominational fame are futile without positive responsibilities. If you have prayed for years yet without an answer, examine yourself and follow these conditions strictly.
King Uzziah died of leprosy because of pride instead of seeking the face of God and Ahaziah also died of his disease because he consulted the god of Ekron (2 Kings 1:16-17). Trusting idols and technology to combat epidemics is foolishness. We need to trust God for our healing and forsake our sins so as to obtain mercy (Prov 28:13). We can deepen our prayers with fasting as we wait upon God (Joel 2:12-13; Isaiah 40:31). Let us emulate Jesus by seeking the face of God as often as possible in humility (Mat 14:23; Phil 2:5-9).
Without the aforementioned conditions, Christians will only pray amiss and lose God’s intervention during critical periods. Secret sins, arrogance, prayerlessness and lack of time for God are major hindrances to our healing and forgiveness. If our nation must be healed, then we must adhere to the aforementioned conditions.
PRAYER: Father, we promise to seek Your face with humility and forsake our secret sins today. Visit our families, church and nation with healing and forgiveness, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
