I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the father, except through me. – John 14:6
Many of us are familiar with the above bible verse, where Jesus tells His disciples that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. But what did that saying really mean for them, and what does it mean for us?
Jesus made this statement with a sense of supreme authority on the night before His death while he was preparing His disciples for the days ahead. To the disciple, this statement meant that Jesus and the Father are one, anyone who sees and knows Jesus, already knows the Father. He made the statement, in answer to Philip’s question on wanting to meet the Father.
To us, this statement means that Jesus is the only way to God. That is to say, if you do not “believe” in Jesus, you cannot know God.
The question now remains, how well do you know Jesus?
The world today has filled our heads with so much information, there are too many doctrines, too many woke Christians, atheist. The emergence of technologies and innovations have made some people think they do not need Jesus anymore. Real Christianity has lost its essence in the world we leave in today, people sit behind their keypads, downsizing and ridiculing the work of true Christians. Sigh!
Truly, we are living in the end times. The Bible tells us in II Timothy 3:1-5, “But know this, in the last days perilous times will come.” As Christians, it is high time we rethink where we are going, our ultimate destination of where our journey of faith leads to. And in achieving this we need to know Jesus, and if you already know him, you need to intensify and rekindle your knowledge of him, he is the only way for us Christians out of this sinful world.
Although, having a full grasp of and planning our destination and life might not be totally possible as Jesus made it clear that “God is God and He works all things, including your life, according to his purposes” Psalm 57:2 says, “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfils his purpose for me.”
As Christians, we are tasked with simply knowing and trusting in Jesus daily, and walking in faith that HE is the way. This is key in understanding God’s purpose for your life on earth. When we abide in him, we will not know a defined course, but we can rest in the comfort of faith – that he will lead us exactly where we need to go as we walk in him.
