THEME: GOD’S GIFTS ARE PERFECT
PASSAGE: JAMES 1:13-17
MEMORY VERSE: James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of Lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”
HYMN: MHB 851 (18.104.22.168. and refrain) -ALL things bright and beautiful.
One of God’s attributes is His desire to give us amazing gifts. James here encourages believers in Christ by telling them the absolute truth that God gave every individual gift to prosper. He is the source of everything one has and promotion in whatever we do (Ps. 75:6) comes from Him alone.
James also refers to God as the Father of Light and the source of the Lights (James 1:17). Whenever God gives us something, He gives it to us out of His goodness (Psalm 68:19). He gives it to us for our good and a better future(Romans 8:28) and to help us to know Him better and to bring us in a closer walk with Him (2 Corinthians 12:7-15).
Every good gift we receive is because God loves us. His love for us is so great that He looks for every opportunity to give us a gift. He desperately wants us to know that we are loved and valued by Him. He so deeply wants us to know that He is not distant from us. Rather, He is in our midst to lead us to abundant joy and peace in life.
God’s gifts are much more life-giving than anything an earthly parent could give. He gives the gift of beautiful sunrise because He knows we have a longing to gaze upon beauty. He gives the gift of His presence because He knows we need the peace that only He can bring. He gives you the gift of friendship because He knows you aren’t made to live alone. He provides our finances because He cares about everything we need and desires to use us to bless others.
God’s gift may not look like the present you received for Christmas last year, but it will be exactly what you need when you need them. Beloved, spend some time today reflecting on the amazing gifts God has given you. Thank Him for His desire to bless you. Worship Him because He is good. Open your hands and look unto heaven to receive all the gifts your heavenly Father longs to give you today.
PRAYER: O Lord, help me to cherish and also utilize everything You have given to me, in Jesus’ name.
