HYMN: MHB: 820 (6.5. twelve times – WHO is on the Lord’s side?
MESSAGE
Loyalty and perseverance even in the face of unjust treatment, are encouraged among believers. In the same way, we should submit to our employers, whether they are considerate or harsh. By so doing, we may win them to Christ by our good example. Paul gave similar advice in his letters (Ephesians 6:5-9, Colossians 3:22-4).
People suffer for many reasons. Some suffering is directly due to their own sin. Some people suffer because of their foolishness; while some are as a result of living a careless and reckless life.
Peter was writing about suffering that comes as a result of doing good. Christ never sinned, yet He suffered so that His followers could be set free. We must be prepared to follow Christ’s steps.
All who follow Jesus must be prepared to suffer. Discipleship is a ministry of power and of suffering for others. Our goal should be to face suffering as our Lord Jesus Christ did – with patience, calmness, and confidence that God is in control of our future.
Let no one who is suffering because of the sin he committed or for breaking the law of the land say he/she is suffering for Christ. There is a gulf of difference between suffering for Christ’s sake and suffering for sin and breaking the law of the land.
PRAYER: Jesus our perfect example; help me today to follow Your steps in the journey of my life. Amen.
