DAILY REFLECTION: UNDERSTANDING GOD’S PATH – THURSDAY 10TH JUNE, 2021.

THURSDAY 10TH JUNE, 2021
THEME: UNDERSTANDING GOD’SPATH
PASSAGE: PSALM 119:33-40
MEMORY VERSE: Psalms 119:34 “Give me understanding and I will keep Thy law and obey it with all my heart.”
HYMN: MHB 622 (6.4.6.4.1010.) – SHOW me the way, O Lord.
MESSAGE
The prayer, “Give me understanding, and I shall keep Thy law”, seems to be a spiritual understanding; an understanding of the perfection, purity, holiness, and spirituality of the law. In context, it connotes an understanding of the Gospel of Christ from whom grace and strength are given. It is a gift of pure, free, rich grace to people who have them.
The text is a prayer of a man who desired to understand God’s pathway so that he could walk in His precepts. The psalmist, as in MHB 622 states “Show me the way O! Lord and make it plain” started the prayer with a sincere heart and commitment to learn and follow any path that God will lead him. The knowledge and understanding of God’s pathway help one to walk in obedience to the law of God.
The Psalmist, however, confesses certain factors that may hinder his prayer such as covetousness and looking at worthless things. He earnestly prayed for the revival and establishment of God’s Word in his life.
Every believer is dependent on God for direction but must acknowledge Him in all His ways (Proverbs 3:6). A carnally minded person cannot understand God’s path (Romans 12:2). Only a renewed mind can understand and obey the law of God. He is able to test and approve what the will of God is.
A regenerated mind delights in understanding God’s path because his destiny is guaranteed. On the other hand, an unregenerated mind is doomed for destruction. Hence God’s attributes are the characteristics of a regenerated person.
PRAYER: Show me the way, O Lord, that I may follow Thee and walk in Thy truth, for there is life in Thee. Amen.
