MEMORY VERSE: 1 Samuel 2:9 “He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.”
HYMN: MHB 280 ( – I WANT the Spirit of power within.
The word ‘PREVAIL’ means “to overcome or triumph”. In today’s reading, it appears that Prophet Zechariah had gone to sleep after his sixth vision, and the angel of the Lord comes again and awakens him (verse1). The purpose of the 10 visions Prophet Zechariah had was to encourage Zerubbabel in completion of the temple that the returnees from the 70–year Babylonian captivity were re-building and to assure him of divine enablement and ability to accomplish their mission successfully.
Neither human might nor wealth, nor physical stamina would be sufficient to complete the work. Verse 6b says “…not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” The problems that faced Zerubbabel which means (Begotten in Babylon) looked as high as a mountain, but with the help of the Spirit of God, they could be flattened out as plain.
When our natural man goes through challenges and often difficult times, don’t press the panic button but release the grace of God in your life. Before your victory shows on the outside, you need to win first in the spirit. You prevail first with God before you prevail with men. You can continually do this by having quality time with God in prayer. The power is in the spirit of God. Zerubbabel will not be able to win by worldly power or might but by the spirit of God within him.
Remember that Nehemiah faced stiff opposition from Sanballat, Tobiah, and other enemies when he and the people were rebuilding the broken wall of Jerusalem but Nehemiah and his people prayed.
Note that for anything to be successful in the physical, it must first be settled spiritually. This is because the spiritual realm controls the physical atmosphere. Therefore, in getting things done easily, always pray to God to have His hand in it. Your victory or your success story is through God’s grace and not through personal effort.
PRAYER: The grace of God is upon me, and nothing in this world will be able to stand against me. Divine enablement is mine today and evermore, in Jesus’ Christ name. Amen.
