MESSAGE
In yesterday’s devotional, we looked at suffering with Christ. We even prayed to suffer with Him. Today, we are faced with one of the key factors that make us to fall away from our decisions. That is the fear of being mocked by others. Mockery is using teasing language or behaviour to ridicule a person. Jesus Christ was mocked by people who asked Him to heal Himself on the cross.
In verse 29b, “And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him saying, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’ But was it after all a mock? No! They did not know they were confessing the obvious. Sinners rarely know the righteous! Sometimes in your choice to suffer for Christ, they will call you names and laugh at you. Those things are meant by the devil to distract you. Do not allow them. In your decision of yesterday to suffer for Christ, you will see the temptation as soon as you mingle with the world, but do not give up!
In those days we were younger, because of our resolve to follow Christ, people gave us names such as “Pastor”, “Reverend”, “Pope” etc, but we were not ashamed. It rather made us careful how we lived our daily lives. But the irony of it is that whenever we needed to pray in any gathering, they still called the ‘Pastor or Pope’ to come and pray for them. Why did they not call the mockers to pray? The world knows the righteous.
So, do not give up even as they deride or mock you because of your decision to live for Christ. You may be the Simon of today in Nigeria, no longer of Cyrene, whom the Holy Spirit is compelling to help carry the cross of Christ. Will you refuse Him? Think about it.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, make me unshakeable in the face of mockery by unbelievers to stand for You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.Da
