MESSAGE
Today’s passage reminds me of a church that was built on hilly terrain with a very high tower housing the church bell. People saw the tower from every part of the community. Even neighbouring communities heard the bell of the church whenever it tolled at the time of prayer. That church building and the bell tower were like the presence of God for the community members. It was as if God was watching and saw them in all their actions. The church building really had a strategic location and it shone brightly.
Today, like that church building and its bell towers, we are challenged to shine for our own communities to bear witness that they see and hear us. Christianity is not a badge! It is not about a dressing pattern or style, even though it is a part of it, but it is far more than that. It is about a lifestyle. The life of a Christian must show whenever the Christian appears.
I once encountered a lady in the aeroplane. She sat next to me. Immediately we exchanged greetings, she asked me “Are you a Pastor?” l was shocked because l was not putting on a collar or anything to show that l was one. When l tried to ask how she knew, she told me that “whenever you see a true man of God, there is usually a glory that goes with them.”
From that day, l started being conscious of my image and personality in public even when I don’t put on my collar. We are expected to shine brightly for Christ as the star in the sky at night. Shine in your office, shine in your shop, shine in the market, shine in the home. Shine everywhere you find yourself that the world may know that we belong to Christ. Christians are the light of the world.
PRAYER: O Lord, help me to shine for You wherever I find myself, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
