THURSDAY 12TH AUGUST, 2021
THEME: BE STILL
PASSAGE: EXODUS 14:8-21
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
HYMN: MHB 538 (8.7.8.7.D.) – WHAT A friend we have in Jesus.
MESSAGE
Today, we are confronted with the story of how God delivered the people of Israel from their taskmasters. They all witnessed the series of plagues inflicted upon the Egyptians, which forced King Pharaoh to partially agree to free them from bondage. However, a couple of hours after their release, Pharaoh changed his mind and commanded his army to chase and bring them back to slavery. He might have done so because the Israelites formed a chunk of Egypt’s workforce.
The people of Israel became sore afraid especially when they saw the red sea and noticed the advancement of the Egyptian army towards them. They started insulting Moses, whom God used to lead them out. They hurriedly thought of the benefit if they had died in the land of Egypt than being drowned and swept away by the sea where their remains would not be found. What an ungrateful and forgetful nation like many of us today!
However, we thank God that Moses asked them to calm down, be still and see what their testimony would later be. The voice of God is also echoing this to someone today.
Do you think you are doomed, trapped, presently facing the surge of the “Red Sea”? Are you perplexed and troubled? Are there problems within and without? Are you considering going back to Egypt? Does it appear that your glorious destiny and future is interlocked with an overwhelming challenge? Are you thinking of committing suicide? Are you burdensome and downcast?
Like God said to the people, He is still saying the same thing today. Calm down, be still; fear not; worry not; don’t be troubled, don’t be perplexed, but see the deliverance the Lord will bring. Be encouraged with the action of Jesus Christ when He and His disciples encountered a storm in one of their journeys (St. Mark 4:35-41). Precisely, Jesus got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Be still”.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I command every scheme of the devil ravaging my life, family, business, occupation and studies to be quiet now and evermore, in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
