THEME: CALL THE NAME AND BE SAVED
PASSAGE: ROMANS 10: 5-13
MEMORY VERSE: Romans 10:13 “For, everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”
HYMN: MHB 99 (C.M.) – HOW sweet the name of Jesus sounds.
The passage for our meditation today reveals what one should do and be saved. Apart from believing in God, Paul admonished the Roman Church that salvation lies in calling the name of Jesus Christ. This vocal action shows what the heart believes. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34b). The mouth should be sincere and agree with the heart to call the name of Jesus for the salvation of the soul. If we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our hearts that God has raised Him from the dead, we will be saved (Rom 10:9).
The name of Jesus should continually be in our mouth because God has highly exalted the name above every other name (Phil 2:9-11). It is the Christian’s power of attorney to get answers to all prayers, save, heal, bless and receive from the Almighty God. Whatever we do in words or deed should be done in the name of Jesus (Col 3:17). At the mention of Jesus’ name, every knee of sickness and sorrow in heaven, on earth and beneath the earth bows and Satan with his cohort, takes flight. Jesus’ name is the master key to salvation, in the sense that Jesus is the Way, Truth and Life (John 14:6). There is no other name for salvation except JESUS (Acts 2:21, 4: 12).
Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows who are His, and “everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must depart from iniquity.” (2 Tim 2:19). Calling the name of Jesus in vain or for wickedness or cover-up consequently results in disgrace and eternal regret. An example is the Sons of Sceva (Acts 19:13-16). God will not spare whoever uses His name in vain (Ex. 20:7; Matt. 7:21-23). If you oppress, deceive and exploit people in the name of God, you will not be saved. His name is holy, and cannot be used irreverently.
PRAYER: O God! Save us from all satanic plots and eternal damnation, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
